Should we edit external links with http to https, when possible? And if the link doesn't work with https, it stays at it is but we add a warning to it.

I know edits must substantial enough and doing this kind of edit is discouraged, but in this particular case it might be a good idea... what do you think?

  • What are the pros that you see? It seems like needless work, considering not all links will work with https. – Richard Mar 14 '17 at 19:04
  • @Richard, if the link does not work with HTTPS, we simply add a warning to the reader. – Bebs Mar 15 '17 at 7:58

While https is safer, it's not reasonable to assume https will be avaliable for all links and https alone does not mean the link is safe only the data you are transferring to the site is. SE itself just fully went https so until recently you would not be able to do that with links from this site until recently. – Dom Mar 15 '17 at 14:01
